Eight killed as city bound bus carrying pupils collides with shuttle – PHOTOS


At least eight people have been confirmed dead and several others critically injured in a fatal accident involving an Easy Coach bus and a shuttle at Sachangwan along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway.

The Nairobi bound bus was ferrying pupils from St Peter’s Mumias Boarding Primary School and students from St Claires Maragoli Girls who had closed school on Friday.

Several people were still trapped in the vehicles wreckage when our team arrived at the scene.

Police and an emergency response team from the Kenya Red Cross at the scene rescued the injured and rushing them to hospital.

Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Mr Joseph Muthee said four adults and a child were confirmed dead at the scene of accident.

According to Mr Muthee, initial investigations indicate the driver of the Prestige shuttle, which was heading to Kisumu from Nairobi, had attempted to overtake on the climbing lane when the vehicle collided with the Easy Coach bus.

The driver of the shuttle, a mother and her baby were among those who died on the spot.

The injured were rushed to Evans Hospital, Nakuru Level Five and Molo sub-county Hospital.

About 45 pupils were still in the bus and toghether with one adult who was still trapped inside when our team arrived at the scene.

The bus had picked pupils from St Peters Mumias Boarding Primary School early Friday morning before proceeding to pick seven students of St Claires Maragoli Girls at around 8 am.
