Eliud Kipchoge take on Russia, Ukraine war

Eliud Kipchoge has appeared to call on Russia and Ukraine to cease the ongoing war between the two countries, moments after winning the Tokyo marathon, for the umpteenth time.

The Kenyan, considered the best long distance athlete of all time, on Sunday won the race in Japan with a 2:02.40 timing.

Compatriot Amos Kipruto finished second with a personal best time of 2:03:13, while Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola settled for third in 2:04:14.

“I am so proud to win in the streets of Tokyo, where the people have running in their heart and minds,” said Kipchoge.

“Finally, I want to say I want this world to unite. My win today is to bring positivity in this world,” he said.

In 2020, Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge underlined his credentials as the king of the 42 km race with a totally dominant run to retain his Olympic title on the streets of Sapporo on Sunday.

The Russian invasion in the Ukraine has led to destruction of property to the tune of billions of dollars and displacement of million of Ukrainians and other nationals, including Kenyans.
