Ex-KDF soldier arrested after stabbing man to death in fight over barmaid
Detectives in Kitengela are holding a former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier who allegedly stabbed a 26-year-old college student during a quarrel over a barmaid.
Mr Nicholas Mwaniki, 39, was on arrested on Sunday alongside his girlfriend Ms Farida Osman, 24, after being smoked out from their hideout in Kitui County.
Mr Mwaniki allegedly stabbed the student, who police have identified as Mr Jibrir Mohammed, inside a bar in Kitengela.
He then asked Ms Osman to clear the blood which had spilled all over and they together fled the scene to an unknown destination.
According to a police report seen by Nairobi News the two fled the crime scene leaving behind the body of the deceased.
It all started when Mr Mwaniki, lured Mr Mohamed to the bar which he owns and where he had employed Ms Osman.
“Investigations reveal that the deceased had a love affair with Osman. The bar owner was also in a relationship with her and they had on several occasions fought over the woman,” the report reads in part.
It further revealed that on Thursday last week, Mr Mohamed was invited to the bar for a drink when Mr Mwaniki stormed the premises and stabbed him to death.
The duo had engaged in a scuffle before the suspect drew a knife and stabbed the deceased severally.
Isinya Sub County police boss Mr Ancient Kaloki said witnesses said they heard a commotion inside the pub and when they went to find out what had transpired they found the body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood.
The deceased was later rushed to Kitengela Sub-County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The lady was positively identified by locals and even her photo shared to the police, it is then that a manhunt was launched and she was found in the company of the main suspect,” said Mr Kaloki.
The two suspects are now awaiting arraignment in court on Tuesday.
