Exclusive: Eliud Kipchoge – Why I chose to partner with Tecno
World marathon record holder and Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge has revealed why he decided to partner with Chinese mobile manufacturing company Tecno.
In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, during the launch of 5G Tecno Phantom X2 series in Nairobi, Kipchoge said he signed the deal to promote technology.
“I am excited to partner with the world’s pioneers in terms of innovation and technology. Being environmentally protective, the Phantom series devices are made from recyclable materials which makes the partnership valuable and most importantly protecting the next generation,” Kipchoge said, adding that he has seen the Tecno mobile devices on the market for about 10 years.

“I am impressed with the innovation; it is amazing that the Phantom X2 series has the world’s first retractable lens and is also made from recyclable materials which means we want a clean and better world for our children. I really admire how Tecno is evolving and the fact that Phantom is a pioneering brand. I’m among the first users of this device and I can assure you that it is an incredible device,” he said.
“The phone has one of the best cameras. This will enable me to record cool and excellent videos that I will share on my social media accounts,” he added.
This comes just a few weeks after the mobile company named Kipchoge the brand ambassador the Phantom X2 series.

Kipchoge is widely considered the world’s greatest marathoner. Between 2014 and 2019 he won all 10 marathons he entered. Kipchoge also holds the world’s marathon record of 2 hours 1 minute and 9 seconds.
He also revealed that with the unique features in the phone, he will be able to record himself while training and sharing the videos with his fans.
Kipchoge also revealed that his family will use the phone to record him live during the Boston Marathon that is set to take place in April.

Meanwhile, Tecno’s SSA Creative Lead Boris Chang said they wanted the winning spirit of the famous athlete to reflect on the product.
“Kipchoge is a renowned personality in the world. People relate with his winning spirit. Besides, he is the world’s record holder. Our phone also has a higher speed just like Kipchoge,” Chang said.
Kipchoge has been honored by many companies and named as brand ambassador for his peculiarity as an athlete.
