Exclusive: How Gaucho landed invitation to major event along with Mama Ida and CS Murkomen
Bunge la Mwananchi president Calvince Okoth aka Gaucho has revealed details of how he managed to accompany Mama Ida Odinga and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to the grand launch of Skyward Express flights in Migori County.
Gaucho said he received a special invitation from Mama Ida a few weeks before the event. The political activist termed the invitation as a divine blessing.
“Many prominent people who desired to be in the event were not picked, but I would not say that I am more worthy and honourable. Being invited to such an event is purely a matter of favour,” Gaucho told Nairobi News.
He also said Migori governor Ochilo Ayacko also wanted him to attend the event. The star-studded affair came just days after Mama Ida and Mr Murkomen jointly presided over the historic launch of Skyward Express’s first commercial flight from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Migori.
Among the distinguished guests who attended the event were Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Board Chairperson Caleb Kositany, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch and EALA MP Hassan Omar.
The rehabilitation of the Migori Airstrip by KAA, as part of its strategic plan to bolster the country’s burgeoning aviation industry, was a topic of discussion at the event.
Gaucho praised the project, terming it a game-changer for Migori’s economy.
“I am confident that the flight will significantly boost Migori’s economy. Now, you can simultaneously manage projects in Nairobi and Migori due to the shortened travel time. I commend the government for undertaking such a transformative project,” he said.
