Exclusive: How I landed cop role on Tosh’s Netflix series, Volume – Terence Creative
Renowned comedian Terence Creative has ventured into acting, marking his debut in the new Netflix film titled ‘Volume.’
Directed by David ‘Tosh’ Gitonga, with collaborative efforts from Njiiri Karago, Volume aligns with the current trend in pop culture, exploring real-life situations against the backdrop of alternate realities that have dominated the film scene.
During an exclusive interview with Nairobi News at a private screening on December 20, Terence shared insights into his role in the film.
Portraying the character Sergeant Kipi, a senior security figure who has faced city crimes, Terence drew inspiration from his past encounters with authorities during his life on the streets.
“I am sergeant Kipi, a senior security. I have been a victim of crime in the city. I have been arrested many times when I was living in the streets. It was easy to execute the role, but I also had to perfect it and give it my best,” Terence explained.
Despite being his first movie role, Terence expressed gratitude for landing on Netflix, considering it a testament to God’s plans for him.
He highlighted the coincidence of registering as a filmmaker with the Kenya Film Commission in the same year.
“I have done set books before. They sent me the script and since I believe in possibilities, I gave it my all and it came out very nicely. This is my first movie and also I have landed on Netflix and I thank God. God has amazing plans ahead. This is an affirmation that God called me for this. This is the first year that I have also registered as a film maker by Kenya Film Commission and it is a good coincidence.”
Terence’s wife, Milly Chebby, commended Tosh as a star who has consistently supported her husband in various projects. She emphasized Tosh’s pivotal role in Terence’s journey, from providing the first advert to securing a Netflix debut.
“My husband, Terence and Tosh met way back. Tosh is a star and he gave my husband the first advert and he is the first to give him a Netflix debut. He is a star and he has made my husband shine. We are here to celebrate him on his new Netflix movie, Volume.”
The series ‘Volume’ revolves around Benjamin Mwachinga, an aspiring rap artist known as Benja, exploring themes of family dynamics, crime, music, and love.
The cast includes Brian Kabugi as Benja, Stephanie Muchiri as Ivy, Serah Wanjiru as Lucy, and Elvis Ounyo as Smallz, among others.
