EXCLUSIVE: Nsimbe facing the axe at Tusker after poor season
Tusker coach George ‘Best’ Nsimbe could be on his way out of the club after he was asked to ‘step aside’ over the weekend, Nairobi News can exclusively reveal.
A spot check by our team confirms that indeed the Ugandan trainer was missing in action when Tusker beat Muhoroni by four goals on Sunday. Ironically, IT was the club’s most productive result this season.
The former Azam (Tanzania) and KCCA (Uganda) coach was also conspicuously absent from training on Monday, with assistant coach Francis Baraza taking charge on both occasions.
It is believed that Nsimbe’s woes commenced after he fell out with a selection of senior players.
“He suggested in a recent interview that he was all too keen to reshuffle the squad at the end of the season and bring in younger players,” a source explained to Nairobi News.
‘TAKE A BREAK’
“The sentiments irked the management who have asked him to take a break.”
“The players are not happy either. You could see against Muhoroni after each goal scored, they celebrated the way Samuel Eto’o once did when Mournho called him old.”
The fallout aside, Nsimbe has also been under increasing pressure for overseeing a disastrous season at Ruaraka by the club’s standards.
Having won the league and cup double under Paul Nkata last season, Tusker started this term on the wrong footing, suffering early elimination from the Caf Africa Champions League by Mauritius club AS Port Louis.
The club also lost out in the defence of the domestic shield and is currently ranked sixth out of 18 teams on the SportPesa Premier League standings after 29 rounds of matches.
