EXCLUSIVE: Why Diamond Platinumz got stranded in Nairobi after Meru show

Tanzanian artiste Diamond Platinumz is currently stranded in Nairobi due to a miscommunication on his flight schedule, the Nairobi News understands.

Diamond, who had been putting up at a Nairobi hotel after his arrival on Thursday, left for Meru on Saturday where he staged an electrifying performance later that night.

But on coming back to the city on Sunday afternoon, the Bongo star and his entourage headed straight to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where they were shocked to find that the promoter had booked their return flights for Monday night.

Sources in Meru say Diamond and his team of about eight went to a Nairobi hotel where they had been booked upon arrival last Friday but found it fully booked by delegates attending the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (Ticad).

The Utanipenda hit maker wandered up and down the Nairobi city in search of a hotel room without success.

THRILLING PERFORMANCE

According to sources close to Diamond, it was the promoter who failed to honor the previous arrangement to have the singer’s flight booked for Sunday night.

Diamond and his team, we understand, sought for an apartment to spend the night and it was not clear by press time if they found one.

The promoter also refused to foot the bill for the team’s accommodation on Sunday night.

The team is expected to depart later on Monday night. “Diamond is livid,” said the source.

The Nairobi News team could not reach his publicist for a comment.

The bongo star electrified the Meru crowd with a thrilling performance on Saturday night at the Meru Polytechnic grounds.

Local stars, including Nameless, Nassizu, Otile Brown, Natty Mwalim and Mr Lenny who curtain-raised for Diamond’s show also staged a thrilling performance.
