‘Fake doctor’ Mugo wa Wairimu detained after jumping bail

A man accused of sexually assaulting a sedated patient while posing as a medical doctor will be detained for 10 days pending a ruling on an application to cancel his bond.

The prosecution also told the court that the accused, Mr James Mugo Ndichu, alias Dr Mugo wa Wairimu, jumped bail and applied that his bond be cancelled. He was out on a Sh5 million bond.

Prosecution further said the suspect has been posting on social media issues “concerning the character of a witness” in the case.

Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo ordered that Mr Ndichu be detained until September 2, when he will deliver his ruling.

He has been charged with raping a sedated woman, who will use the pseudonym “ABC” during the trial.

The prosecutor said that on November 1, 2014 at Prestige Healthcare Clinic in Nairobi, Mr Ndichu raped the woman after giving her four tablets of an unknown drug.

Mr Ndichu denied operating a drug shop not registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

He is also charged with employing two unregistered lab technicians, identified as Christine Mumbua Philip and Jane Muthoni.

Mr Ndichu is accused of presenting himself as a doctor and purporting to practise medicine while not registered and licensed as a physician.

He also charged with being in possession of and using a radiation device without a permit from the Radiation Protection Board.
