Family seeking help to bring home Kenyan woman who died mysteriously in US

A family is asking for help from well wishers to bring back the remains of their kin who was found dead in her room in the United States on January 4.

Patricia Miswa left Kenya last year in August to pursue Masters in Creative Writing at the University of Minnesota.

On Thursday last week her mother tried calling her but she did not answer. The mother later called the hostel management who together with the police discovered Patricia’s lifeless body inside her room.

According to the deceased’s younger sister, Anita Miswa, Patricia had no prior cases of any illnesses. Anita says her sister sounded healthy the last time they spoke on New Year’s eve.

“The news of my sister’s death came as a shock to the whole family, because she had not been sick before and was always a very vibrant person who was full of life,” said Anita.

“All we want now is to bring her back home where she belongs. But we as a family alone cannot raise the amount needed for the transportation and burial. We need a total of Sh1.5 million. Already we have received Sh600,000 from friends and well-wishers,” she said.

A fundraising will be held on Sunday January 14 in Baraka estate, Ngata area Nakuru county. Contributions can also be sent Patrica’s mother through the number 0725 764389.

Before leaving for studies in the US, Patricia founded the AfroElle magazine that focused on women of African heritage, entrepreneurs, leaders, influencers, and those at the grassroots, with amazing initiatives whose stories had not been covered in the mainstream media.
