Father of Garissa attack victim pens emotional tribute

A heartbroken father of one of the 148 victims of Garissa University terrorist attack has penned a moving tribute to his late son, laying bare the pain and agony of the relatives of the deceased.

Headlined, My Son Cyrus Mutuku, the father delves into the son’s character calling him “light at the end of the tunnel” and “a big source of light that lit the whole family tunnel from the entrance to the end (exit)”.

“It is unbelievable! I don’t believe it! Your mother doesn’t believe it! Neither your family nor the entire community,” reads the tribute in part.

He then blames security apparatus for failing in their mandate.

“We shall be forced to believe that you succumbed to injustice, insecurity, terrorism, blatant ignorance by certain responsible organs working irresponsibly,” he writes in the tribute shared online by Ushahidi co-founder Ory Okolloh Mwangi.

PAINFUL DEATH

He says Mutuku wanted to redeem the family and the community from elements of poor living, injustice and selfish desires.

“My son I know you died a painful death and I know your blood shall avenge your death. May the souls that contemplated your death burn in the hottest part of hell. May your killers never live  to stage any other terrorist attack,” the father writes.

Mutuku was among 142 students who were mercilessly felled by terrorists’ bullets on the morning of April 2, 2015 at the Garissa University.

He then makes a prayer:

“Thus what happens on earth has to have the manifestation of his will. Therefore, may the lord NEVER allow the progression of such terrorists’ activities from achieving. Never see the light of day.”
