Fatuma Zarika: Why I walked out of my marriage
World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Bantamweight champion Fatuma Zarika has opened up about her troubled marriage life, the divorce and single parenthood.
The 32 year-old a mother of two girls, who was recently feted by President Uhuru Kenyatta with a Head of State Commendation, made the revelation in an interview with a TV station while discussing her boxing journey.
She revealed that marriage life had proved a little bit difficult hence her decision to walk out. Since then she has been dedicating her energies to boxing and raising her daughters .
“Mimi niko na familia, nina wasichana wawili na sijaolewa. Kusema ukweli, nilikuwa na nikaacha, so niko mimi na watoto wangu.” she said.
She successfully defended her title a fortnight ago by out-punching Zambian Catherine Phiri.
Zarika went pro in 2003 and is sister to Gor Mahia skipper Musa Mohammed.
She expressed her sympathy to her former celebrated colleague Conjestina Achieng, saying it is hurting to see her lead a miserable life while those who made money from her fights don’t seem to care.
“Conjestina tumeanza na yeye boxing na aliwika sana Kenya lakini sasa hivi ukimwangalia ameachanishwa hakuna anayemjali. Inaniuma. Hatufai kuwa hivyo. Siwezi kusema nitamsaidia Conjestina kwa sababu hata mimi nina familia na nina majukumu yangu lakini wapo watu wanaoweza kumsaidia ila wamekimya” she added.
