Meat lovers are today set to take a hit when the National Environment management Authority (Nema) closes Kiamaiko slaughterhouse in Nairobi.
Nema’s chief corporate communications manager Evans Nyabuto said the move to close the facility follows “its failure to comply with various regulations especially in the management of solid and liquid waste”.
The authority will visit the slaughterhouse on Monday at 4pm where the closure will be communicated, he added .
Located near Huruma estate, Kiamaiko is the largest abattoir of goat and sheep meat.
The meat is usually supplied across the estates in the city.
