Fear of arrest keeps socialite Bridget Achieng from returning home

Controversial socialite Bridget Achieng says she cannot return to Kenya for fear of arrest. In a recent Tiktok live session, the socialite revealed that she is a marked man.
“I cannot enter Kenya because my passport is blocked. I am stuck in Turkey. If I enter Kenya, I will be arrested. It’s not like I can’t go to Dubai or anywhere else. But I say, why waste time instead of making sure that I pursue this case, pick up my son, and go to a better country?”
Ms. Achieng, who appeared on the reality show Nairobi Diaries, has been accused of alleged human trafficking where it was reported that she lured several Kenyan women to the Middle East by promising them jobs only for them to end up being trafficked for sex, allegations she has always denied. She says the matter is still before the court.
In 2018, the BBC had to issue an apology to the socialite after a prostitution documentary in which she was featured prominently. She accused BBC of cutting out most parts of her interview, leaving small bits that portrayed her as a prostitute.
However, in the documentary, Ms. Achieng confessed to having been a prostitute before she became famous.
She revealed that she was desperate for money at the time, but more importantly, she was naive.
“I had to do it just to get back on my feet, it’s not something any woman should be proud of,” she told BBC Africa.
“I tried (the trade), I wouldn’t say I didn’t try, you’re a desperate girl looking for money and this guy offers you like $10,000 (about Sh1 million) just to go and see him. 10 thousand dollars! Some people have never seen 10 thousand dollars in their life. You just have to look pretty get $10,000 and get on the plane and do what you have to do.
