Raila: My late son Fidel Odinga’s name still on IEBC register

The National Super Alliance (Nasa) flag-bearer Raila Odinga says his late son Fidel Odinga’s name is still featuring in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) cleaned voter register.

Mr Odinga made the revelation during an interview on Radio Maisha on Tuesday morning.

“They (IEBC) say they have cleaned the register. My son who died in 2015, his name is on the register. If you send his ID number, you get his details,” said the ODM leader.

“Even Jacob Juma and many more. But what is more battling is the fact that if you send ID number 00, you get registration details; 11 too.”

Mr Odinga said these are some of the issues they had wanted addressed by the new commission but “it (register) is still as messy”.

“This begs the question: why can’t the IEBC explain why this hasn’t happened,” he said.

The Nasa leader claimed that there are officials within IEBC who were involved in electoral malpractices in the past and are still holding office.

“We are looking at IEBC with a microscope… mjinga ameerevuka,” he added.

Mr Odinga said he does not need to publicly say he will accept the outcome of the 2017 election since he has done it before.

He cited the 2013 election where he said the Supreme Court gave a ruling against their wishes even after failing to “look our evidence”.
