Fidel’s ex-wife shows up at funeral fund-raiser

The late Fidel Odinga’s ex-wife Veronica Wanjiru Nganga was among people who turned up at the ‘Friends of Fidel’ fund-raiser on Tuesday evening at Cedars Club.

Veronica showed up towards the tail end of the event with a male companion. Both kept a low profile even declining be photographed by the journalist who covered the function.

Since the divorce with Fidel, Veronica kept a low profile and has been a common public figure as compared to when she was married.

The two got married in a traditional wedding just before the 2007 general elections but the marriage did not last long. Fidel only cited “irreconcilable differences” while explaining the separation to the media.

Scores of Fidel’s friends, close family members and former business partners, attended the fund-raiser.

TNA chairman, Johnson Sakaja while appearing on Cheche show on Citizen TV said the fundraiser was convened to ensure that all Fidel’s projects, which includes educating orphans in Kibera and Mathare slums, would not stall.

Fidel died last Sunday morning after a night out with friends. The former Prime Minister’s son was 41.
