Fifa President Gianni Infantino is the latest high profile dignitary to mourn fallen former Kenyan coach James Siang’a.

Siang’a, a former Kenya international and Harambee Stars coach, lost a long battle to diabetes at his Bungoma home last Friday.

In a condolence letter sent through Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa on Tuesday, Infantino also appreciated the achievements of the former Gor Mahia and Luo Union coach.

“He was a goalkeeper, played at international level for Kenya, and coached throughout Africa at both local and international level,” Infantino said.

“We could hope that in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness,” he added.

PAID TRIBUTE

Other dignitaries who have since paid their tribute to Siang’a include Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, Mwendwa, former FKF boss Sam Nyamweya, and Uganda Cranes coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic.

“Siang’a was a mister reliable, he did the job without wanting so much to be noted for the success. He also nurtured a known crop of talented youngsters. We will always remember him,” Nyamweya said.

Burial plans for Siang’a, who also enjoyed successful coaching spells at Simba SC in Tanzania and Uganda’s Express Red Eagles, are underway.
