Fire destroys police camp in cash row
Fire destroyed a new building at the Administration Police training camp in Embakasi on Tuesday.
The fire, was later contained but after it had destroyed property.
Journalists were barred from the area and officers dismissed it as a “small incident caused by an electrical fault that affected a store”.
Despite this, black smoke could be seen from miles away before the fire was put out.
An officer who did not want to be identified, however, hinted the incident could have been an arson attack.
Destroy mattresses
He claimed the fire was started intentionally to destroy mattresses that were stored in the building after a deal involving senior officers to sell the mattresses to new recruits at the camp went sour.
The mattresses were delivered on Sunday and were to be distributed on Monday.
However, some officers wanted to sell them to the recruits even though they are provided free by the government,” he alleged.
He further alleged that this has been the practice at the camp for some time and officers have been making a killing from the recruits.
