Fire razes structures in Mathare

A huge fire has gutted down numerous structures at the Mathare Bondeni area. The fire started at around midday and is suspected to have been caused by an electric fault. Residents have lost property of an unknown value.

No fatalities have been reported.

Residents of neighbouring structures had a hard time salvaging their belongings before the fire could spread further.

By 3.00 p.m, the fire had still not died out despite frantic efforts by residents to put it out.

“It is as if we are not Kenyans. If it was Westgate, fire fighters would be here by now,” shouted an angry resident.

The incident comes two days after another fire gutted down tens of structures in Fort Jesus, Kibera.
