Firm accused of Lang’ata land grab speaks out
The company linked to the alleged grabbing of Lang’ata Road Primary School’s playground has stated that it is the valid owner of the land and has a right to be heard.
In a press statement published on Saturday Nation, Airport View Housing Ltd said any repossession of the land by government must follow due process of the law and the rights of those involved upheld.
It accused the media and the general public of being unfair and not establishing facts on the matter, adding that it is confident justice will prevail and it shall be vindicated as the true owner of the land.
“We note that the National Lands Commission intends to hold public hearing over the matter. The company will make its representations in these forums,” the statement read in part.
It further condemned reports that portrayed the company and its officials as “land grabbers”, adding that it will pursue ongoing legal processes to their logical conclusion.
The company had earlier on sued the Nairobi County government accusing it of trespassing into its property. In its court papers, the firm said it is the legal owner of the land and had acquired clearance to fence it from the county government mid December 2014.
National Land Commission Chairman Muhammad Swazuri declared Lang’ata Road Primary School as the legal owner of the land, stating that the institution, like many public schools, does not have a title deed making them prey to land grabbers.
Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu named Airport View Housing Limited as the company linked to the land tussle and gave details of the company’s directors and the shares they hold.
She said Mandip Singh Amrit, Manjit Singh Amrit, Herbans Singh Amrit and Kamal Prakash Amrit are the directors of the company that was registered on August 10, 1989.
The physical location captured during registration of the company was Jasmine Center, on Waiyaki Way.
Investigations have shown that Jasmine Center does not house the company’s office. The manager of the premise has stated that Airport View Housing Limited has no space there.
