Five reasons why Gor Mahia lost the Cecafa final

Our writer makes a tongue-in-cheek case on why Kenyan champions Gor Mahia lost the Cecafa final to Tanzanian side Azam.

1.Because their goal keeper decided to become a spectator

Boniface Oluoch offended fans when he conceded a second goal easily. The ex-Tusker FC goalkeeper has been accused of ball watching as he let easy goals.

2. Their defence was on holiday

Gor Mahia had a weak rearguard that didn’t trouble the deadly Azam forward line. Theirs was a direct opposite to Azam’s solid backline marshalled by Pascal Wawa that pockteted the much touted Michael Olunga.

3. The much touted attack force was muted.

Michael Olunga cut a forlon look upfront as he was short of ball supply and was hassled off the ball by overzealous Azam defenders. His partners upfront had closed shop….and left shooting boots in the hotel.

4. Azam juju is stronger than Gor Mahia’s “research”

Gor Mahia has been accused of relying on juju-men to aid their glory. Did they meet a tougher and much skilled “researcher” on Azam payroll who neutralized their charms?

5. They lost their cool!

Gor Mahia players were ever angry…what annoyed them still remains a mystery! They kept on kicking Azam players, launching verbal attacks at the referee and Eric Ochieng picked a needless card with a reckless elbow.
