Flat Tusker look for sparkle

While all eyes fixed on Sunday’s big clash between league rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, their fellow title contenders Tusker and Sofapaka will also be in action over the weekend eager to return to winning ways.

Tusker, who have only won two of their five matches so far, will be up against Muhoroni Youth at Muhoroni Stadium looking for a more convincing performance after coming from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw against Chemelil Sugar last weekend.

Their coach Francis Kimanzi said “I don’t know” when asked why his team has  struggled with consistency this season.

“We haven’t began the season as I would have liked but there are still many more matches to come and so there is no pressure,” he said.

One player within the brewers’ ranks who has however been impressive is the league’s top scorer Jesse Were.

Elsewhere, the struggling Sofapaka will come up against Nakuru All Stars at the Afraha Stadium on Sunday.

The 2009 champions have been unconvincing thus far in the season and are without a win in their last four matches.

The 2014 runners up have simply failed to show the form that made them the highest scorers in the league last season.

Their assistant coach David Ouma said that the team’s main weakness is the defence.

“There are a few challenges with our defense because we had to make adjustments following the departure of Clifton Miheso, but that is something that we are working on and I’m sure we shall gradually get our form back,” he said.

In the other matches on Saturday, Western Stima will face Thika United at the Kisumu County Stadium, while third placed Bandari will welcome Sony Sugar at their Mbaraki Sports Grounds.
