Football administrator asks government to outlaw new committee

Former football official Tom Alila has trashed the recent formation of a 13-member committee to take over from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transition Committee when their term in office ends.

Alila, who’s in the pasty served Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee (NEC) member argued the committee consists individuals who did not have the interests of the sport at heart.

He added the committee members were positioning themselves to take over the leadership through the backdoor and should not be allowed.

“This is not the time to think about posts but to seek for means of how Kenya can be re-admitted by the world governing body Fifa instead pushing for selfish agendas meant to benefit individuals instead of Kenyan soccer,” he said.

He said the priority should be given to the FKF secretariat resuming their duties in the running of the federation’s day to day operations and can manage the federation by filling the vacuum that will be left by the FKF Transition Committee when it leaves office.

Alila who served in the Executive Committee during the the tenure of Sam Nyamweya’s stressed the need for Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr Amina Mohammed to engage Fifa in returning football back to normalcy and bar any individuals from trying to impose themselves in football management.

“Madam Waziri please talk to Fifa and find ways and means of normalizing football in the country and don’t allow officials to take advantage of the vacumm to plunge the country into a deeper crisis. Kenyan soccer is suffering, we have been locked out of the international scene, there’s a big problem which needs to be solved and yet officials are jostling for power instead of putting Kenya first. Be Aware Madam CS,” said Alila

Recently on June 11th, 2022, football stakeholders formed a 13-member committee to take over from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transition Committee when their term in office ends Thursday next week.

The 13, who have been drawn from various regions across the country, and football leagues were selected during Saturday’s FKF Special General Meeting held at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani in Nairobi.

Murang’a Seal chairman Robert Macharia, who hails from Murang’a County will be the head of the committee should Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amina Mohamed accept and gazette it.

He will be deputised by Amos Otieno from Nairobi County, while Luthers Mokua from Nyanza will be the committee’s secretary general.

Other members include: Boaz Keino (Upper Rift Valley), Kenneth Ruto (Lower Rift Valley), Caleb Amwai (Western), Lilian Nadunda (Coast), Abdullahi Salat (North Eastern), Alex Musikeri (Eastern), Chris Mmbwanga (FKF-Premier League clubs), Ken Ochieng (National Super League clubs), Kent Lubiso (FKF Division One Leagues) and Paul Makumi (Kenya Women Premier League clubs).

Addressing the media after the meeting, Macharia said that they expect to meet CS Amina sometime this week, with the view of taking over the management of football in the country.

Kenya is currently serving an indefinite suspension from football activities imposed by Fifa owing to government interference.

As a result of the suspension, national teams have been banned from competing in international assignments. Kenyan referees have also been barred from competing at the Fifa World Cup set for Qatar in August 2022 polls.
