Forbes list: Louis Vuitton owner Bernard Arnault now world’s wealthiest person
Forbes Magazine carried out research and tallied the wealth of the wealthiest people worldwide.
In their findings, they noted a drop of 28 people from their billionaires’ list, counting “2,640 ten-figure fortunes, down from 2,668 last year.”
In their 2023 world billionaire lists, “new” names dominated the top of the list as the richest woman on earth ranked in at position 11. Below are the world’s richest people:
- Bernard Arnault, 74, and Family- the French owners of over 70 fashion and retail brands including Loius Vuitton and Sephora. They are worth $211 billion.
- Elon Musk, 51- Is the wealthiest American according to this list. He is worth $180 billion and is the owner of SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter.
- Jeff Bezos, 59- This American is worth $114 billion. He founded the e-commerce global platform, Amazon.
- Larry Ellison, 78- This American is worth $107 billion. He is the Chairman, Chief Technology Officer, and co-founder of Oracle, a giant software company.
- Warren Buffet, 92- Another American, he is worth $106 billion. He is said to be one of the greatest investors of all time. He owns stakes in Apple, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Coca-Cola, Visa Mastercard, and American Express. He is believed to have invested in over 60 companies.
- Bill Gates, 67- An American, he created Microsoft Software and now focuses his time on energy investing and philanthropy. He is worth $104 billion.
- Michael Bloomberg, 81- Is an American media and entertainment magnate worth $94.5 billion.
- Carlos Slim Helu, 83, and family- This Mexican family is worth $93 billion. Carlos is Mexico’s richest man and together with his family, they control Latin America’s most prominent mobile telecom firm.
- Mukesh Ambani, 65- India’s wealthiest man. He is worth $83.4 billion and has interests in oil and gas, telecom and retail as well as petrochemicals.
- Steve Ballmer, 67- Is an American worth $80.7 billion. He is the former CEO of Microsoft.
- Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, 69- Is French and the world’s richest woman. She is worth $80.5 billion and is the granddaughter of the founder of L’Oreal.
- Larry Page, 49- Is an American worth $79.2 billion. He was the former CEO of Alphabet, the parent company of Google. He remains a board member and controlling shareholder of the tech giant.
- Amancio Ortega, 87- Is a Spaniard worth $77.3 billion. His fashion and retail business- named after him- is one of the wealthiest clothing retailers in the world.
- Sergey Brin, 49- Is An American worth $76 billion. He was the former president at Alphabet, the parent company of Google. He too remains a controlling shareholder and a board member at the company.
- Zhong Shanshan, 68, – Is a Chinese food and beverage magnate worth $68 billion.
- Mark Zuckerberg, 38- Is an American worth $64.4 billion. He is the founder of Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and the newly launched Threads.
- Charles Koch, 87- Is an American worth $58 billion with diversified interests.
- Julia Koch, 61- Is David Koch’s widow. She and her three children inherited $59 billion following the death of her husband at age 79.
- Jim Walton, 74- Is the youngest son of American Sam Walton who founded the Walmart retail supermarkets. He is worth $58.8 billion.
- Rob Walton, 78- Is the eldest son of the Walmart founder and he is worth $57.6 billion.
According to Forbes, falling stocks, rising interest rates, and risky acquisitions have been causes for the change in the ranking of world billionaires. The Magazine also noted that the largest number of billionaires came from America, China, and India respectively.
No African made it to the top 20 of the list, however, Elon Musk, has roots traced back to South Africa.
