A Form One student at Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma County committed suicide on Wednesday after she was reportedly shamed for altering her exam results.

According to sources within the school, who spoke to Nairobi News on condition of anonymity, the girl was reprimanded by the school’s Deputy Principal during an assembly after it was discovered that she had sneaked into the staff room and changed her geography test marks.

It is alleged that the student filled in a fresh exam paper and awarded herself a score of 93 percent.

She then placed the paper inside the Geography teacher’s desk where the previous exam sheets were.

After the teacher found out, the matter was reported to the Deputy Principal who exposed her infront of the whole school during an assembly.

SUICIDE

The girl’s lifeless body was later found dangling in the dormitory. Apparently, she hanged herself using a bed sheet.

Nairobi News could not get comment from the school as the Principal was said to be away.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital where autopsy is expected to be performed.
