Former Miss Kenya Emma Too sues Samaki Samaki weeks after Twitter beef with Trevor Ombija

By Winnie Mabel November 4th, 2022 2 min read

Weeks after an online Twitter spat between former beauty queen Emma Too and Citizen TV’s primetime news anchor Trevor Ombija over the inconveniencing noise that up-market Samaki Samaki seafood and jazz club causes Ms Too, she revealed she took the owners of the club to court.

Speaking on Nation’s November 3, 2022, Twitter Spaces discussion on the pros and cons of having bars within estates, Ms Too also revealed that in addition to her noise complaints being initially ignored until she had to turn to social media, the club and its patrons have been causing her problems with their parking and taxi drop off points- increasing the insecurity risk within their immediate neighborhood.

“The establishment across my place started off by saying it was a jazz bar. Okay, they played jazz, and if you played jazz at a low volume, it’s palatable. It’s not going to vibrate my house.

But there are certain beats that you’ll play- and I live in an old house- it literally vibrates my house. But to call me and tell me you will soundproof my house, and then they say no, we can only afford to soundproof your bedroom. And that is not a solution,” Ms Too began.

Ms Too claimed the loud music volume inconvenienced several neighbours, including an embassy on the other side of the club, and residents were not getting more than four hours of sleep a night.

“Even after the music is switched off at 3 or 4 AM,  the patrons are still talking loudly to each other because they’ve been listening to loud music and shouting at each other. We’re still not able to sleep,” added Ms Too.

She added that the club’s patrons have also been blocking roads with haphazard parking, including outside residents’ houses and some even using her house as a taxi drop-off point for online taxi-hailing apps.

“This has security concerns, and they’ve had security concerns where they’ve even come to ask me for CCTV to see in case anything was seen. So you’re bringing insecurity into our neighbourhood, you’re breaking the Zoning Laws because my street was zoned for townhouses.

We have restaurants on our streets. You will never hear them. They run their businesses decently and without infringing on their neighbours. They do sell alcohol, and their patrons don’t make noise,” said Ms Too.

She clarified that her intention was not to have any business shut down but to have them respect the people who live where they come to open their bars and clubs, as well as respect the fact that they are operating in a residential area.

Nairobi News previously reported that Trevor Ombija claimed Ms Too was fighting the club because he had denied her a landscaping contract at Samaki Samaki.

Ms Too responded on Twitter, unveiling her evidence of how Samaki Samaki was inconveniencing residents and Trevor was manipulating matters to appear as victims of a vindictive person.
