Aladwa in court, denies incitement charge
ODM Nairobi county chairman George Aladwa has denied a charge of incitement to violence.
Mr Aladwa was charged over remarks he made in Kibera during Mashujaa Day. A footage of the utterances has widely circulated on Facebook and Twitter.
The prosecution on Friday asked the court to deny the former Nairobi Mayor bond on grounds that there is increased hate speech and incitement cases in the country.
Assistant DPP Dr Leornard Maingi argued that stringent bond terms have not dettered politicians from making inflamatory remarks.
He observed that cases of hate speech and incitement are on rise in the country.
However lawyers representing Mr Aladwa said his prosecution is selective and that he is entitled to bail as any other accused person.
The court will rule on the application by the DPP at 2.30 p.m Friday.
