Ugandan football official-cum ‘sex pest’ jailed
A former manager of the Ugandan national football team was on Friday sentenced to 10 years in prison after a Kampala court found him guilty of engaging in sodomy.
According media reports in Uganda, Chris Mubiru, a former manager of the Uganda Cranes was convicted by Buganda Road chief magistrate Flavia Nabakooza of sodomizing Emmanuel Nyanzi.
In addition to the jail term Mubiru, who also handled top Ugandan clubs SC Villa and Bunamwaya (now Vipers) in the past, was also fined Sh 1.3 million.
DEFILEMENT AND RAPE
“I heard from Mubiru’s lawyers during mitigation for being a first offender and a soul bread winner in his family. I have also heard from the victim who was by then (only) 17 (years old) about the pain that he gets as a result of sodomy,” Magistrate Nabakooza is quoted by Kawowo Sports website.
This development comes barely a year after an athletics coach in the country was arrested and charged with defilement and rape.
The coach, Peter Wemali, who is accused of defiling girls aged between 15 and 17 years at the Police Athletics Camp in Kapchorwa, was busted by a senior athlete in the country, Moses Kipsiro.
