Kiharu MP Irungu Kang’ata is poised to become the next senator of Murang’a county.
Mr Kanga’ta, a former tout and University of Nairobi student leader, has defeated Senate deputy speaker Kembi Gitura by garnering 239,570 against Kembi’s 195,449.
A total of 435,019 votes were cast.
He was among youthful MPs in the 11th Parliament and initiated the Higher Education Amendment Bill, which compels the Higher Education Loans Board to notify students of the fate of their study loan applications.
He is studying for a PhD at the University of Nairobi.
