Four dead in dawn accident along Kisii-Nyamira road

At least four people, among them a pedestrian, died in an accident involving a Toyota probox and a private car along Kisii-Nyamira road on Saturday morning.

One passenger died on the spot while two others and a pedestrian died at Christmarriane Hospital while undergoing treatment.

The probox was heading to central Kisii town when it hit a pothole before it swerved and hit an oncoming car.

Witnesses said the probox carrying 13 passengers was moving at a high speed when it rammed into the ongoing car.

“I was crossing the road when all of a sudden the car hit this pothole. I think the impact sent it swerving from side to side before it hit the oncoming vehicle,” Ms Mary Kwamboka, a witness told Nation.co.ke.

SPEEDING

Among the dead was a G4 security officer who was on foot to work to relieve a night duty colleague.

No person was injured in the Subaru car during the dawn accident.

Kisii County Commander Agnes Mudambi said 10 more people had been rushed to Christmarriane Hospital for treatment. She blamed speeding for the incident.

“I have heard the probox was speeding but our officers are still conducting preliminary investigations into the accident,” said Ms Mudambi.

Doctors at the Hospital said many of the patients brought there had sustained chest and head injuries.

“We have put them on surveillance. Most of them are out of danger though. We are however still monitoring a few critical cases,” hospital boss Sr Beatrice Sabato said.
