Four shot dead in Tena

Four suspected thugs were on Sunday night shot dead by police in Tena, along Outer Ring road and a pistol recovered.

The four, according to Nairobi County Police Commandant Benson Kibui, were in a BMW vehicle believed to have been stolen and which they intended to use to commit a robbery.

Mr Kibui said the four used the car to carry a flat screen television set stolen from a house in the neigbourhood.

The four also had an assortment of identity cards and ATM cards believed to have been stolen from members of the public.

Ambush

“Police officers had information that the men were planning to raid several business premises and homes and so they laid an ambush,” Mr Kibui said.

He said the police blocked the car near Jam Rescue club at around 8:30 pm and asked the men to come out of the vehicle but they instead started shooting at the police.

“That is when they were gunned down by the plain cloth police who were in an unmarked vehicle” Mr Kibui said.

Her said police were looking for a fifth suspect believed to have escaped the shooting.

The pistol recovered from the suspects was loaded with nine bullets.

The bodies of the suspects were taken to the City mortuary while the BMW taken to the Buruburu police station.
