Fracas in Kasarani as matatu operators protest over poor roads

Hundreds of commuters from Kasarani area were on Friday stranded as matatu crews held a protest over the poor state of the Mwiki-Kasarani road.

Residents commuting to work had to use bodabodas to Roysambu and board matatus coming from Thika heading to town.

The demonstrations went on the whole morning with sections of the dilapidated road being barricaded with building blocks and burning tyres.

Matatus plying the route remained parked by the roadside, with some protesters threatening boda boda operators who came reap from the impasse.

“We will carry on with the demonstrations until we are assured of plans to repair the road because there has been a lot of empty promises by our leaders,” said one of the protesters.

The area has been experiencing traffic jams especially during rush hour as motorists maneuver through the potholes.

Due to the ongoing long rains in the city, the section has had incidents of vehicles getting stuck in mud.
