Labour court declines to suspend Kaindi’s ouster

The Employment and Labour Relations Court has declined to issue a temporary order suspending President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to replace of Grace Kaindi as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

Judge Monica Mbaru on Friday ruled that the decision has already been made and that she will deal with the application filed in seven days.

The ruling was on an application filed on Thursday in which a petitioner alleges that President Kenyatta violated the constitution in replacing Ms Kaindi.

Mr Zachary Onsongo, through lawyer Jesse Oduor, argued that the replacement erodes constitutional gains towards the empowerment of women.

The petitioner is seeking orders for Ms Kaindi’s reinstatement.

The National Police Service Commission and the Attorney General have opposed the suit, claiming that he has no employment contract with the sued parties hence no prejudice will be suffered if no orders are issued.
