Gakuo takes over Polycarp Igathe’s role at City Hall

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has appointed John Gakuo as the co-chair of the Nairobi Regeneration Committee, replacing former deputy governor Polycarp Igathe who resigned last month.

The committee, is tasked with the restoration of Nairobi’s ‘lost glory’ and is a joint venture between the county and national government.

According to the letter of appointment, Gakuo took over the role on February 15.

The committee is headed by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and is tasked with spearheading reforms in land, information and communications technology, housing and settlement, infrastructure, transport and energy.

They are also tasked with looking into water, environment and solid waste management as well as provision of services to youth, women and people with disability.
