Gaucho – My successor will face a Herculean challenge
Calvince Okoth, popularly known as Gaucho and serving as the President of Bunge la Mwananchi, said his successor must be prepared to elevate and advance the movement.
Gaucho, a prominent activist, emphasized that his efforts to raise the movement’s political profile to a national level would require his successor to step up their efforts to maintain its newfound status.
He stated, βIt is true that I have significantly elevated the movement to a point where it is now nationally recognized. While the movement has existed for a long time, none have promoted it as effectively as I have.β
He went on to highlight that the movement had seen multiple presidents in the past, but none had succeeded in making it widely known. Currently, Bunge la Mwananchi enjoys nationwide recognition, and Gaucho himself has become a prominent figure within the movement.

Gaucho’s rise in national politics has been noteworthy. Despite his origins as a “ghetto president,” he has gained substantial popularity since the August 9, 2022 General Election and has emerged as a prominent figure in opposition political rallies.
His journey from holding press conferences at Jivanjee Grounds in Nairobi to sharing the stage with key figures in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya political movement has been remarkable.
As an emerging political figure, he has earned a place on the political podium, typically reserved for established “bigwigs.” Gaucho has been given numerous opportunities to address the public, further enhancing his popularity on a national scale.
His vocal role in the Azimio anti-government protest rallies has garnered significant attention, earning him special recognition and speaking engagements. Even at the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) on May 22, 2023, Former President Kenyatta acknowledged Gaucho and playfully promised to treat him to lunch.
Gaucho sheds light on the evolving landscape of Bunge la Mwananchi and the expectations he has for his successor in maintaining and building upon the movement’s newfound national prominence.
