Girl shot dead in Mathare protests buried – PHOTOS
A somber mood engulfed Isecha village in Manga, Kisii County on Friday during the burial of Stephanie Moraa, the 10 year-old pupil felled by a bullet during riots in Mathare two weeks ago.
Her parents Damacline and George Mokaya described her death as a severe blow to the family. They said they want justice for their young one.
“We want the circumstances surrounding her death to be investigated to their logical conclusion,” said Mr Mokaya who accused the government of not even paying the family a visit to condole with them.
He eulogised his daughter as a “brilliant girl, and in who I had banked my hope. ”
Mr Mokaya, at some point, claimed there were people who wanted to steal the girl’s body and dump it elsewhere.
BIG GAP
Stephanie ‘s mother described her daughter’s death as one that left a big gap in her heart.
“She is the only daughter I played with, we ate together and laughed together, ” she said in her tribute.
The mother of two said she could not understand how her daughter died as result of a political struggle she knew nothing of.
Family members said they want the government to “come clean on the matter. ”
Mr Mokaya Ingare, the grandfather to the girl, urged the government to compensate the family for the loss.
