Girl stabs cousin to death in tussle over washing dishes after New Year meal
A girl stabbed her cousin to death in Nyaramba village, Gucha South, Kisii County on Sunday morning following a dispute over who should do the dishes after a meal the previous night.
The two, who sat their KCPE examinations last year, had visited their grandmother during the festive season, and could not agree on who was to clean the utensils.
According to Kisii County Police Commander, the 14-year-old girl stabbed her male cousin, 15, following the disagreement.
“Officers at Nyamarambe Police Station received a report that a minor had attacked her cousin with a knife, stabbing him on the chest. The two had reportedly argued over who was to wash the utensils in the morning,” said Ms Mudambah.
Ms Mudambah said the minor then fled on foot and sought refuge at the office of the area chief.
FLED SCENE
“She fled the scene of crime and went to the chief’s office where she had sought refuge. The chief, Mr Oroo Ombui, is the one who handed her over to police officers,” said the police boss.
The victim was rushed to Tabaka Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An uncle of the deceased said the incident occurred Sunday morning at around 7am.
The deceased had been selected to Mbita Boys’ High School while his assailant has been selected to join Nduru Girls’ High School.
“We are in great shock at the incident since both children were academically talented, having been selected to join good schools. This is a great loss to the family,” he said.
The body was taken to Tabaka Mission Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
The suspect is in police custody and will be charged in court on Tuesday.
