Obama’s flower girl now a ‘celeb’ in school
The 8-year-old Kenyan girl who presented a bouquet flowers to President Barack Obama on arrival in the country last week has become the darling of her school mates, receiving great attention that has left the little girl overwhelmed.
Joan Wamaitha, who attends Mariakani Primary School in Nairobi’s South B, prepared for exams this week after her big moment last week on Friday when Obama arrived in Nairobi for his first tour of the country as the American president.
On Monday at the morning assembly, head teacher Lucy Obonyo sought to inspire the students with the same message of possibility that Obama delivered to an invites-only audience in Nairobi.
STAR ATTRACTION
Joan, who wore a badge with a photo of Obama and a slogan about the “American Dream”, was the star attraction among her school mates.
“She’s a bit confused by the many questions that the other pupils keep asking her,” said Joan’s teacher, Pauline Musyoka, who described the girl as smart and hardworking.
Joan was selected to meet the US president from Mama Ngina Children’s Home, where she stays.
