Githurai youths block Thika Road in anti-Babu Owino protest – PHOTOS

Demonstrators barricaded Thika Superhighway in Githurai on Monday to demand for the arrest of Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, alias Babu Owino.

The protesters condemned Babu Owino for allegedly making an abusive statement in reference to President Uhuru Kenyatta during an opposition rally in Kawangware on Sunday.

“We cannot allow our president to be abused yet he was born by a human being just like any other person. Babu Owino must be arrested for abusing Uhuru Kenyatta,” said one of the demonstrators.

Jane Wanjiku said the MP’s remarks demeaned womenfolk in the country and should not go unpunished.

Some chanted pro-Jubilee songs demanding that President Kenyatta be sworn in and instead of holding another presidential election.

“We want ‘Kamwana’ to be sworn in as the President instead of going for another election. He won fairly and the numbers are there to be seen. There will be no peace without President Kenyatta as our president,” shouted a demonstrator.

The protesters brought traffic on the highway to a temporary standstill as they lit bonfires and placed stones on the road.

Anti-riot police quickly dispersed them for resumption of traffic flow.

Babu Owino remained defiant on social media on Monday, insisting he will not apologise to anyone because he did not mention anyone’s name at the rally.

“I will not apologize to anyone because I called nobody’s name during my yesterday’s address. We have so many presidents in Kenya, from the President of sonu to all presidents of students union in Kenya, President of the Supreme Court, President of Youth senate and many more. However, I will stick to objective politics and will never abuse anybody,” read part of the post on Facebook.
