Google celebrates Jamhuri Day with a doodle

Search engine giant Google on Monday celebrated Kenya’s Jamhuri day with a doodle bearing the famous Kenyan colour-branded wristband.

Google often changes its doodle to mark significant occasions or to honour prominent personalities within the geographical location of a specific domain.

In Kenya, it has in the past changed its doodle to honour the country’s oldest pupil the late Kimani Maruge and the late Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai.

Google has in all independence day celebrations customized its doodle to celebrate with Kenyans.

For instance, during the 2014 Jamhuri Day celebrations, the doodle had a backdrop of the Uhuru Gardens where the inaugural ceremony was held.

In May 2013, Google changed the doodle to show Kenya’s general elections featuring ballot boxes and papers.
