Gor, Leopards on the ascendancy, Tusker beaten
Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards on Wednesday chalked up impressive victories in their respective Kenyan Premier League midweek assignments in Nairobi.
In other matches, there were losses for Tusker, Nakuru All Stars, Mathare United and Sony Sugar, on a busy match day in the top flight league.
In form midfielder Ali ‘Teargas’ Abondo set up Gor Mahia on their way to victory against an out of sorts City Stars at the City Stadium with a fifth minute goal, his sixth league strike of the season.
Strike partners Micheal Olunga and Meddie Kagere added a goal each for the lively K’Ogalo, for comfortable 3-0 win, who now stretch their unbeaten run in this campaign to seven games.
“The key to this result was securing the early strike which unsettled them. Thereafter, we looked lively and should have added a couple,” Nuttal told Nairobi News.
Leopards were also aided by a double strike from dangerman Jacob Keli, enroute to a 3-1 victory over Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).
CONSOLATION GOAL
Ugandan Karim Nduggwa added a third for Leopards, before Raymond Murungi secured a consolation strike for the losers from the penalty spot.
Another Ugandan George Abege contributed the vital statistic for Coastal club Bandari in that 1-0 win over Tusker in Ruaraka.
Abege met Duncan Otewa long clearance with a lovely chip over onrushing Tusker goalkeeper for a result which is certain to pile pressure on coach Francis Kimanzi.
Sofapaka were also 1-0 winners over visiting Chemelil Sugar at Machakos Stadium, thanks to a goal from Kenya international Enock Agwanda in the opening moments of the match.
In Kiambu County, Vincent Omumbo and Micheal Luvutsi scored for Thika United in the first half, to condemn basement side Nakuru All Stars to a 2-1 loss at the Thika Stadium.
Sony Sugar also surrendered all the three points to Western Stima, thanks to a Baron Oketch’s 60 minute goal. Meanwhile Ushuru beat Mathare United 2-1 at Nyayo Stadium.
