Gor Mahia fans read coach Jonathan McKinstry riot act after Leopards defeat
A section of Gor Mahia fans have given coach Johnathan McKinstry an ultimatum to win this season’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League title or else force the management to show him the door at the end of the season.
The disgruntled fans vented their anger in social media accounts after the club lost 2-1 to AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Duel on Sunday.
This was the first time Leopards were beating Gor Mahia in a league match in seven years.
The fans more so took issue with McKinstry tactics claiming the players were outclassed by their opponents.
They also called on the players to shape up or ship out at the end of the season.
“It is better to lose even the league and not be beaten by Kisiagi FC (AFC Leopards). If we can’t win the league and having lost to AFC Leopards, then there is no reason for this coach to stay next season,” said Dan Otieno, a football fan at Nyayo Stadium
The defeat left Gor with an uphill task of winning the FKF-PL title as they now sit second on 63 points, one below Tusker who they face in the next fixture on May 28. A win against the brewers is the only way K’Ogalo can bag the league title.
On paper Tusker have easy fixtures as they face relegation fighting Wazito, Posta Rangers and Vihiga Bullets after facing Gor. K’Ogalo, 19 time champions however will have to sweat to beat Tusker and record wins against Ulinzi Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz and Nairobi City Stars.
Homeboyz fixtures will probably be the toughest for Gor since they lost to Abana ba Ingo in the Mozartt Bet Cup quarter-finals last month. Missing the league title would mean K’Ogalo will be going for a third year without the league title.
McKinstry was appointed Gor Mahia coach in July 2022 on a two-year contract. One of his best achievements in his coaching career was winning the Cecafa 2019 with Uganda Cranes.
