REVEALED: How Gor Mahia made losses at the gates during Tusker match

Astonishingly, Gor Mahia incurred loses in hosting Tusker during Wednesday’s league match that ended goalless at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, a club official has revealed.

The club’s organising secretary Judith Nyangi also revealed that the club, which is arguably the most popular sports entity in the country, had collected a paltry Sh28,700 from the gates.

This amount was fell short of what was required to pay all the service providers at the venue.

“I was in charge (of the funds) as the treasurer was absent. I paid the stadium Sh20,000 (to host the match). I also paid Sh6,000 to the 20 policemen who provided security but we still owe them Sh2,700,” said Nyangi.

“We are yet to pay for the ambulance, Public Address System and stewards. I paid Sh5,000 to the ball boys from my pocket,” she added.

This development is certain to come as a shock to the club management, fans and players, considering gate tickets remains one of the reliable avenues for collecting revenue for the reigning Kenyan Premier League champions.
