Gor Mahia pay homage to the late Fidel Odinga
Gor Mahia’s first team players and technical bench visited CORD leader Raila Odinga’s rural home in Bondo on Saturday morning where they held prayers at the late Fidel Odinga’s grave.
The Kenyan Premier League defending champions and current leaders are currently in Western Kenya ahead of Sunday’s league match against Muhoroni Youth at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu County.
The contingent was received at the former Prime Minister’s home by Mama Ida Odinga.
ARDENT FAN
“We did not attend Fidel’s burial owing to several commitments, so we have formally come to pay our last respects especially considering the role he played in supporting us.” Gor Mahia’s Secretary General Naima Aketch told Nairobi News.
Mama Ida later hosted the team for lunch.
The late Fidel was not only an ardent fan but also a financier of Gor Mahia. He was a common figure at the team’s matches and was fond of donning the club’s replica jersey in the public or private occasions.
At his funeral early this year, Ida eulogized Fidel by narrating how worried she would become whenever he stayed out late after attending Gor Mahia matches, which at times ended up with chaotic scenes.
The late Fidel’s dad Raila Odinga is the club’s patron and an ardent fan of K’Ogalo.
