Gor Mahia rally fans ahead of Mashemeji derby

Gor Mahia have rallied their fans to fill up the Moi International Sports Center (Kasarani) during the Mashemeji Derby on May 14, 2023.

Gor will face eternal rivals AFC Leopards in what is considered the biggest Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League match of the season.

Leopards under coach Patrick Aussems are out to bag a first win over K’Ogalo since 2016.

This will be the 96th meeting between the two sides.

On the other hand, Gor Mahia are chasing the FKF-PL title and have to win to evade a close onslaught from Tusker and Nzoia Sugar who are also eying the domestic crown.

K’Ogalo leads the log on 63 points, Tusker (61), and Nzoia Sugar have 57 points from 29 rounds of matches.

Gor Mahia released ticketing information on May 10, 2023, ahead of the game.

Fans will pay Sh500 to sit in the VIP arena and Sh200 for the terrace.

The club management has invited political leaders for the highly revered clash which draws a lot of fans from Nyanza and Western regions of the country.

“We have invited top political leaders and urge fans from both teams to turn up in large numbers. All fans must pay at the gate including the club’s former officials because apart from good football, we also have to cater to the welfare of players,” said Ochola

“Fans will also have entertainment as we are in the process of sourcing for a popular musician who will have a grand performance at Kasarani. This Mashemeji Derby will be in a class on its own because all arrangements are in top gear,” added the official.

The game will be beamed live on Azam TV and the officials has called on the Football Kenya Federation to pay them and other clubs in dollars from the rights of airing the game before Friday so that they can finalise on the arrangements.

Tanzanian Pay TV will curtain raise Mashemeji by broadcasting the defending champions Tusker game against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday.

“The rights of Azam to air the match have not been paid for and Gor and other clubs must be paid all their money up front. FKF has a deal with Azam on this and the money must be paid in dollars by Friday,” added the official.
