Gor Mahia set for player clearout

Godfrey Walusimbi, Jerry Santos, Israel Emuge and Tawfiq Zakary are among the high profile players set to depart Gor Mahia in June.

In the meantime, and in what could be described as a strange twists of events, Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall is said to have sanctioned the signing of Ugandan international Robert Ssentongo, all this at the expense of the club’s former lethal striker Dan Sserunkuma.

“We will make a few changes to the playing unit mid-season, only that we are yet to agreed upon who will be departing or coming. That will be decided and communicated next week,” the club’s assistant secretary general Ronald Ngala told Nairobi News.

“The game plan here is to have a team that will not only win the league and the Cecafa Club Championship this year, but have a realistic stab on the continental front next season.”

PLAYING TIME

Santos, Emuge and Tawfiq have been deprived of playing time at the club this term, and the club is reportedly keen to strike them off the Sh 3 million monthly wage bill.

“The coach just doesn’t like Santos, maybe because of his approach or lack of effort in training,” a source within the team said.

“The same applies to Emuge. Zachary was a political signing by the administration and he has not lived up to expectation. Walisumbi’s is a special case,” the source added.

Word also has it that Walusimbi has gone on a self-imposed strike, having refused to play for the past four league games until the club officials fully clears his outstanding salary arrears, match winning bonuses and training allowance spanning back two months.
