Gospel musician Ringtone in deal to end Sh1.2m row
Gospel artiste Ringtone has been let off the hook after the prosecution on Wednesday withdrew a fraud case in which a Nairobi businessman claimed the singer conned him of Sh1.2 million.
Ringtone, whose real name is Alex Apoko, told a court that Mr Shem Tai had agreed on an out-of-court settlement.
Through his lawyer Evans Ondieki, he produced documents, including a bank cheque and motor vehicle ownership transfer papers, as evidence of the agreement.
Courts allow for arbitration and reconciliation, and the parties have since agreed to settle the matter amicably, said Mr Ondieki.
Ringtone was in court two weeks ago but the charges were deferred awaiting the outcome of the agreement.
The musician shied away from press photographers but his lawyer asserted the dispute had been resolved.
Ringtone was alleged to have promised to import a vehicle for the businessman.
The offence was committed in Nairobi.
