Governor Sakaja? Senator cleared to vie for Nairobi gubernatorial seat

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) has cleared Johnson Sakaja to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

This is after dismissing a complaint challenging the politician’s academic qualifications.

Specifically, Sakaja has been called to account for the degree he acquired at Teams University in Kampala, Uganda’s capital.

But the DRC ruled it has no investigative machinery to investigate validity of documents.

“Though there are serious aspersions as to the validity of his documents but Sakaja has not been charged in a court of law over allegations of engaging in an offense of having falsified documents,” it said.

“Only the Directorate of Public Prosecutions can investigate that.”

Sakaja said he was happy with the ruling, and would now hit the campaign trail

“Our faith and march towards victory remains unshakable. We will win this and shame the deep state,” he said.

Sakaja will face off with Jubilee’s Polycarp in the August 2022 polls.
