Govt shuts down Mugo Wa Wairimu’s clinics amid rape claims
The government has closed all clinics belonging to Mugo Wa Wairimu, a fake gynecologist who is suspected of sedating and raping women patients.
In a statement to newsrooms Monday, Dr Nicholas Muraguri, the director of medical services, said that Mugo’s clinic, Prestige healthcare at Githurai was not registered by the medical practitioners and dentists board.
Mr Mugo is also not registered and Dr Muraguri says he should be charged with impersonating a doctor and misusing the title of “Dr”.
“A joint inspection that was carried in Nairobi from the 17th to 19th June, 2015 established ethat the facility was operating illegally and ordered closed,” said Dr Muraguri.
He says Mugo was arrested and booked at Kasarani police station. He did not comment on reasons he was set free.
Following the heartrending expose on Citizen TV on Sunday night, Dr Muraguri says the board accompanied by a team from Nairobi County and special crime prevention unit visited the facility Monday morning only to find closed doors.
“The ministry appeals to the victims to come forward and give statements to the board to assist with the ongoing investigations. We assure the general public that any information received concerning this matter shall be treated in confidence and witnesses shall not be exposed,” he said.
