The government has pledged to reward Harambee Stars players with Sh50 million if they qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Deputy President William Ruto said the government has also released Sh25 million that was requested by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) in preparation for the round three and four matches against Ethiopia.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the players at Kasarani Stadium on Friday morning.

Harambee Stars will play Ethiopia on Sunday in a reverse fixture after a 0-0 draw in Bahir dar on Wednesday.

“We had some delays with the allowances but it has been resolved. We have released the Sh25 million by yesterday for the team to prepare for this match,” he said

“You will get your bus next month and if you win on Sunday, the government will give Sh50m, ” Mr Ruto said.

Captain Victor Wanyama urged the government to show support whenever the team is playing.

“We’ve been having some challenges but hopefully the government can come in one or two weeks before for better preparations, ” said Wanyama.
